COMFORTZONE EMAIL LIST
AIMS
The purpose of COMFORTZONE is to open up communications between members of the international thermal comfort community. We are scattered across the globe and, unfortunately, meet at conferences much too infrequently. The service is free of charge and is hosted by Richard de Dear, Division of Environmental and Life Sciences, Macquarie University, Sydney.
SCOPE
COMFORTZONE is broadly focussed on the following topics...
- thermal comfort (including sensation, comfort votes, acceptability, preference, magnitude estimates etc.)
- indoor and outdoor thermal environments
- laboratory and field research in thermal comfort
- biophysics
- thermoregulation
- thermal environmental psychology
- psychometrics and questionnaires
- thermal environmental and physiological intrumentation
- thermal indices
- software
- analytic techniques
- conference/seminar/workshop announcements
- data availability/requests
- information on standards (national and international)
- research grant information
- teaching initiatives
- new books or other publications
- news of general interest to comfort researchers
- requests for help, advice, feedback etc.
HOW IT WORKS
- The COMFORTZONE email list is running on a UNIX workstation in the Division of Environmental and Life Sciences at Macquarie University, Sydney Australia.
- COMFORTZONE is managed by an automated software package called "Majordomo" which will perform most of the administrivia (such as adding and deleting subscribers).
- Users interact with the COMFORTZONE email list by issuing simple commands to Majordomo. These commands take the form of email messages to Majordomo. Send an email to this address...
majordomo@penman.es.mq.edu.au
with one (or more) of the following commands in the body of the email. N.B. in the description below items contained in []'s are optional. When providing the item, do not include the []'s around it.

end
Stop processing commands (useful if your mailer adds a signature).
- Finally, and most importantly, to actually post a message or item to COMFORTZONE you send an email to....
comfortzone@penman.es.mq.edu.au
The body of your email should contain the message you want to broadcast to the entire list of COMFORTZONE subscribers. Make sure your name and affiliation are clearly indicated so that subscribers know where and to whom they should respond.
POLICY ON COMMERCIALISM
It is NOT intended to be a channel for electronic junk mail. To enforce this policy I have converted it into a MODERATED list (i.e. I'll be screening items before they get broadcast).
I hope this will become a useful tool. Please feel free to pass this note on to any colleagues and encourage them to subscribe if you think they might benefit from the service in any way.
Yours sincerely,
Richard de Dear
